How long has Israel been planning this war?
It seemed undoubted that it was Hisbollah rockets which started the latest battle in the Middle East. But was it? It is this assumption which seems to have led to a less than partial U.N.draft resolution. George Monbiot questions this in the Guardian (8/8/2006). Israel, it appears has been crossing the border with impunity and challenging those in South Lebanon. When I visited Birzeit University in Ramallah I was told that Israel soldiers would come and taunt students inviting them to throw stones. Seems a favourite pastime for them.
The orkPalestinian News Network reports Israeli soldiers taking a young baby from its mother (father is a prisoner), placing it in the middle of the road and leaving it to cry eor over an hour. This is just one of the many unbelievable stories appearing daily, and it reminds us that Gaza is being subjected to conyinued attack and pressure while the spotlight is turned onto Lebanon. While we are continually reminded about the Jewish holocaust in Germany, what is happening to Palestinians compares in brutality and obscenity.
While diplomats fiddle the two sies are vying with one another to maximise dmage, with American-backed Israel having the superior fire power and ability to kill and destroy.
