If the press don't care, people do: Gaza protests

Both the British and U.S. Governments are planning billion and trillion pounds/dollars for the next extravaganzas. All this is the face of the Global Warming issue, which the British Government if not the U.S. takes seriously. This is not to mention a massive failure to use wealth and its potential benefits from mineral resources which continue to be plundered by Western interests probably supporting these follies. No interest is shown in the conflict and suffering which continues daily and with Gaza the epitome of inhuman acts. If the media is not interested, thousands are. Here is a list of over 100 demonstrations.

The Jewish Voice for Peace sent me the following which amply demonstrates widespread revulsion at Gaza - with Jewish people at the front:

Dear John,

Watch slide show JVP chapters across the country on December 2.

Thank you.

Israeli human rights groups* asked for your help to demand an end to the siege of Gaza, and you responded.

A month of actions culminated on December 2 with 107 demonstrations across the world. Just the threat of international protests helped pressure Israel to call a cease-fire, but the siege continues.

1. In the United States, JVP chapters organized actions in Berkeley, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, Marin County, Sacramento, San Francisco, Seattle and more. See slide show of various actions here.

2. JVP members launched a postcard campaign to ask incoming Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to hold hearings into whether US laws were broken when weaponry supplied by the US was used to violate Palestinian human rights.

3. Over 8,000 signatures, including yours, will be presented to Israeli officials next week.

4. A major peace rally was held in Tel Aviv and 20,000 Q & As about Gaza, 1,500 “End the Siege” posters, and 10,000 stickers were distributed throughout the country. Myriad actions throughout Israel included several convoys to Gaza.

5. Discussions were held at the Knesset with members of parties in the Israeli government, as well as with members of various European parliaments.

Between the recent cease-fire, former President Jimmy Carter's new book, and today's call from the Iraq Study Group, led by former Secretary of State James Baker, for a "renewed and sustained commitment" to solving the Arab-Israeli conflict, there is much cause for hope this season.

Peace and thank you,

All of us at Jewish Voice for Peace
