Settlers make their mark in Eastern Jerusalem

East Jerusalem is the site for the capital of the Palestinian state. Settlers are determined to scupper that and are planning a new development of apartments and synagogue which will dominate the skyline reports the Washington Post (11/2/2007).

In the past week there have been violent demonstrations at the Al Aqsa Mosque following excavations near to the building. The Israelis say that they are making safe an ancient bridge which leads to the building, but Palestinians see it as an attempt to endanger the fabric.

Land grabs continue apace. In Bethlehem demonstrations continue as the apartheid wall is driven across Palestinian land annexing large swathes on the Israeli side. All this activity is in advance of any peace settlement in which Israeli will claim sovereignty over stolen land. At the village of Ar Ras all villagers are cut off from their land as they are refused permits for access. It is time for planting crops.
